A Tribute to James Beveridge
featuring
a screening of the film
The Idealist: James Beveridge, Film Guru.
Director and writer Nina Beveridge will be in attendace.
The screening will
take place Thursday, February 22nd at
7:00pm in the Accolade East Cinema
Theatre (ACE102).
This evening pays tribute to the many achievements of James Beveridge, the
founder of the Film Department at York University, “an idealist who never
let go of his dreams”. An early member of the National Film Board of
Canada, James Beveridge was a disciple of John Grierson - making films with
a political purpose to provoke social change. He was an inspirational mentor
to many, but often ignored and abandoned his family. In her film, his daughter
Nina retraces the steps of his complex career, wondering if it was worth the
collateral damage.

The Idealist wins Platinum Remi at Worldfest Houston - April
30th, 2006
The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru received top honours at Worldfest Houston,
taking the Platinum Remi Award in World Peace and Understanding at the April
30th awards ceremony in Houston. More than 4500 category entries were competing
from 33 different countries. The category of World Peace and Understanding saw
more than 50 competitors.
WorldFest is the third oldest film festival in North America and has just completed
its 39th year. The festival was founded by filmmaker J. Hunter Todd and helped
to discover such directors as Stephen Spielberg, the Coen brothers and Ridley

Nina notes, "My parents believed passionately that film should be used as a tool
for social change around the world. They dedicated their lives to the pursuit
of this ideal. It is heartwarming that this film is being honoured with the WorldFest

to the success of my parent’s work."
The Idealist Accepted to Global Peace Film Festival - August 10, 2006
The 4th annual Global Peace Film Festival has invited The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru as an official selection to the festival. The Festival takes place in Orlando, Florida September 14th to the 21st, 2006. It showcases works that illustrate in a housand ways how peace can be achieved and how it gets destroyed by utilizing the power of moving image to further the goal of peace on Earth.

The Idealist - Official Selection of the Calgary International Film Festival - June 21, 2006
The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru, has been selected to the Calgary International Film Festival. Nina Beveridge is currently discussing the screening of a small body of work by James Beveridge in conjunction with the film at the festival. We'll keep you updated.
The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) is a film festival held annually in Calgary, Canada for ten days in late September and early October. The film festival is a relatively new addition to Calgary's cultural scene and the first one was held in 2000. Since that time, it has grown to become one of the most important in Canada. It is now the fourth largest film festival in Canada. Attendance is usually around 40,000.

The Idealist - Globians Film Festival - May 14, 2006
The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru has just been selected to the Globians Potsdam, World & Culture Film Festival in Germany. The film will premier on Tuesday, August 15th at 8:00PM.
This is the 2nd annual Globians Film Festival. It is about the need for a global understanding of regional issues may give birth to new type of individual life style: People who no longer live in just one community but have a geographical "life span" to several cultures and continents. Globians is about presenting movies on Globians®: the inhabitants of our globe with a global understanding of cultures, societies, politics, history and our life on earth.
Globians shows films about avant garde people who are in search of a "planetarian" life style in their projects. The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru Premiers! - May 9, 2006
After three long years, The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru, the POV documentary film about the life of prolific filmmaker James Beveridge as discovered and documented by his daughter Nina, premiers its feature length version at the NFB Cinema. The event was hugely successful with an attendance of nearly 100 friends, family, and filmmakers. Joanne Smale and her staff at Planet3 Communications did a wonderful job pulling it all together along with the Amazing Food Service. Thank you to both Rudy Buttignol, Commissioning Editor for TVOntario and to Peter Raymont, Executive Producer of the film, for their wonderful opening words. The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru, Beevision's feature length documentary film about Canadian filmmaker James Beveridge, has been selected to the 2006 Mumbai International Film Festival. The Idealist - James Beveridge, Film Guru selected to Cork Film Festival, Ireland - September 8, 2005
The Idealist James Beveridge Film Guru, a feature length documentary film about Canadian filmmaker James Beveridge, has been selected to the 50th Cork Film Festival. For over two years, Nina Beveridge has been working away at this personal story, with the help of her partner Paul Hart and Executive Producer Peter Raymont. The film was chosen from over 2500 entrants to be screened in the Documentary Panorama. The festival takes place in Cork, Ireland from October 9th to October 16th, 2005.
