Monday, February 1, 2016 – Beevision Productions proudly announces a new development deal with TVOntario for Village of Dreams, a cross-platform documentary, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary. The film explores and reflects upon the dreams, desires and personal journeys of the shopkeepers and their families who are part of the Gerrard India Bazaar community and surrounding area.
“We are very excited to dive into this project. As residents of the Gerrard India Bazaar community, we will be working as an embedded film crew. It has been my dream to be immersed in an observational documentary project like this one.” states Village of Dreams producer/director Nina Beveridge.
Village of Dreams explores our collective Canadian identity through the microcosm of the ethnically diverse Toronto business community known as Gerrard India Bazaar and surrounding area. The blend of grocery, jewellery and clothing stores, religious and kitchen supplies, cafés, restaurants and galleries are owned by a diverse group of South Asian immigrants combined with a recent wave of European Canadians, Aboriginals and other entrepreneurs. This stretch of East Toronto is a vibrant, expressive, unique and colourful mosaic that is ever changing. In a community this diverse there are conflicting opinions, approaches and attitudes, but collectively we see the Canadian dream in action, exhibited by the community’s desire for success and passionate entrepreneurial spirit.
The Village of Dreams documentary producers Nina Beveridge and Paul Hart look forward to working with Cinematographer Bongo Kolycius who brings a wealth of expertise and sensitivity to the project. Ten years ago, Nina, Paul and Bongo shot “The Idealist – James Beveridge, Film Guru” for TVO in India, the US and Canada. “We are very happy to be working together as a team again as we have excellent creative communication and shared aesthetic values.” says Beveridge.
Recent credits for Producer/Director Nina Beveridge include Producer of the multi-award winning The Ghosts In Our Machine – a film by Liz Marshall (with Producer/Director/ Writer – Liz Marshall) and Creative Director/Project Manager for Real to Reel/John Zaritsky’s celebratingeccentrics.ca and thalidomidestory.com.
